                                    You Can Make a Difference!
A friend to our neighbors, a presence in Spokane, a witness to the world!

At Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, we care about being disciples of Christ and about reaching out to others so they, too, will become disciples.  This process of discipleship begins inside our church and then reaches out into our neighborhood, our city, and the world as we become agents of Christ’s healing presence.  In a world desperately in need of this good news, you can make a difference!

Your Mission Commission takes seriously Christ’s command as recorded in Acts 1:8: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

You can make a difference for Christ right here in Spokane (Jerusalem), or in the Inland Northwest (Judea and Samaria) or nationally and internationally (to the ends of the earth).  Where there is hunger, homelessness, poverty, disease, or loneliness, you can bring comfort, create hope, build relationships, and offer help through these mission opportunities:

 SPOKANE

●  Westminster Food Bank providing baked goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and canned food  items for individuals and families in need.

Westminster House and Homework Helpers a beacon of hope to youth in the West Central area of Spokane.

Angel Tree.gif●  Angel Tree – reaching out to children with a parent currently serving in prison and to children in need of an adult mentor.

 ●  Interfaith Hospitality Network providing shelter, food, and love to homeless families, our church is a safe haven for a week at a time, approximately four times a year.

●  New Hope Ministries – ministering to the less fortunate in the North Spokane area with clothing, necessity items and utility money.

 Latah Valley Presbyterian Church

 - this is a work project at the newly launched Presbyterian church in South Spokane. WCPC is forming a team to do some major reconstruction work in one of the buildings at the site. The dates for this work are tentative pending sewer connection completion and some other projects that must be accomplished before we can begin our work. Watch for more information in the weeks to come.

INLAND NORTHWEST

●   Upcoming project on Community Center

This mission team will construct ramps, remodel the kitchen, and finish a restroom at Spalding Presbyterian Church built in 1836 on the Nez Perce reservation.

  NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL

 ●  Ghana  - Fall 2006 (And continuing)

Emmanuel-with-Rob.jpg (Pastor Rob Eyman and Emmanuel Anukun-Dabson from Ghana Christian Outreach Fellowship.)

Last year, our church financed a vocational center in rural Ghana.  Now, Emmanuel has visited us and invited us to stay in relationship with him and Christian Outreach Fellowship.  In November 2006 a team from WCPC visited Ghana.  We are moving forward building a long lasting relationship with Emmanuel and the Christian Outreach Fellowship. We invite you to be part of this mission outreach.

For two years we have had a "Ghana Christmas Catalog".  This catalog is an opportunity for you to help the COF Missionaries in Ghana become self sustaining so they may continue the work of planting new churchs. If you would like to help with this Christmas project click here to view the catalog.

Latah Valley Presbyterian Church

There's a valley about to peak--LATAH VALLEY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

Latah Valley cherishes transformative, poetic conversations over and above the number of converts or members we might count upon our rolls. David Bosch, in Believing In The Future, describes the horizon like so: "The issue is not to talk more about God in a culture that has become irreligious, but how to express, ethically, the coming of God's reign, how to help people respond to the real questions of their context, how to break with the paradigm according to which religion has to do with the private sphere" (p. 35).

Given such an audacious agenda, you might explore our website for more detailed encounters with Christ and those he calls together as the Latah Valley Presbyterian Church: www.latahvalley.org. Moreover, for information pertaining to our capital campaign, Crossing The Threshold, please call Organizing Pastor Scott Kinder-Pyle (509-481-8119). Resources which are generated by this campaign will further the Spirit's work at 202 East Meadow Lane Road, Spokane, WA 99224--our current office and future site location...
